REXTON, November 23, 2005 – A $231,762 competitive contract has been awarded to Rockwood Transportation Co. Ltd., of Rexton, New Brunswick, for the construction of armourstone shore protection for the Tignish Harbour in Prince Edward Island. Awarded on behalf of the Department of Fisheries and Oceans Canada, this contract will be completed by mid July 2006.
The announcement was made today by the Honourable Dominic LeBlanc, Member of Parliament for Beauséjour, on behalf of the Honourable Scott Brison, Minister of Public Works and Government Services.
“I want to congratulate Rockwood Transportation Co. Ltd. on winning this federal contract over such a wide field of competitors,” said Mr. LeBlanc. “This contract is a demonstration of the Government of Canada’s commitment to provide a safe and healthy environment for those living and working near harbours.”
The company will build a part of a shore protection structure to replace a portion of the existing shore protection. The work will include repositioning the existing structure and installing a total of 5,400 tons of armour stone. By March 1, 2006, 2,150 tons of armour stone will be placed on the north side of the harbour entrance. The project will be completed by July 15, 2006, when the remaining 3,250 tons of armour stone will be installed.
