DURRELL, November 23, 2005 – A $274,850 competitive contract has been awarded to Northeast Builders Ltd., of Durrell, Newfoundland and Labrador, to replace sections of the reinforced concrete wharf deck in Seldom, Fogo Island. Awarded on behalf of the Small Craft Harbours (SCH) program of Fisheries and Oceans Canada, this contract will be completed in mid-December 2005.
The announcement was made today by the Scott Simms, Member of Parliament for Bonavista-Gander-Grand Falls-Windsor, on behalf of the Honourable Scott Brison, Minister of Public Works and Government Services.
“This contract demonstrates that the Government of Canada awards contracts to companies from all regions,” said Mr. Simms. “Federal contracts are accessible to bid upon and evaluated fairly, meaning even small companies can compete and win. Congratulations to Northeast Builders Ltd.”
Work under this contract will involve demolition and removal of the deteriorated section of the concrete wharf deck, installation of new reinforced concrete deck and construction of an electrical shed for future electrical installations.
The Small Craft Harbours (SCH) program works in partnership with local harbour authorities in five regions across the country to provide commercial fishers and boaters with safe and accessible facilities. The SCH program ensures that nearly 1,300 harbours and 6,000 structures, critical to the economic and social life of small maritime communities, remain safe and in good repair.
