OTTAWA/QUÉBEC, November 4, 2005 -- The project's proponents, Hydro Quebec and its subsidiary, the Société d'énergie de la Baie James, have begun to submit preliminary answers, in thematic blocks, in response to the requests for additional information [PDF - 736 kb] issued by the review bodies on August 2, 2005.
The public is being offered the possibility of submitting comments on the preliminary answers from the proponents within 30 days of each block of responses having been placed on the public registry. For the preliminary answers which have already been published, the 30 day period begins on November 4.
In addition to placing each block of responses from the proponents on the public registry, the review bodies will send an electronic bulletin to all registered participants. Interested parties not registered on our distribution list may send their contact information to the Public Information Office identified hereunder.
The answers from the proponents are available on the Internet sites of the Canadian Environmental Agency, the COMEX and the Public Information Office.
Should the final document from the proponents, regrouping answers to all the questions, differ substantively from the preliminary answers, intervenors will be granted an additional 15 days to modify their input to the review bodies, if necessary.
Once they have reviewed the additional information from the proponents, the review bodies will decide whether they can proceed with public hearings on the impacts of the proposed project. If so, the review bodies will announce the dates and locations of the hearings.
The review bodies are meeting their commitment to keep the public informed so that members of the public can effectively contribute to the assessment of the project.
