Health Canada and the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) share responsibility for
ensuring that Canada's food supply is safe.
Health Canada's Pest Management Regulatory Agency (PMRA) registers and regulates pest
control products under the Pest Control Products Act and regulates the use of chemicals on
food products under the Food and Drug Regulations. PMRA establishes Maximum Residue Limits
(MRL) under the Food and Drug Regulations for all chemicals used on food products.
The CFIA's National Chemical Residue Monitoring Program
(NCRMP) has monitoring, surveillance and compliance components. In the monitoring phase,
an unbiased selection of samples are taken from the normal food supply and tested for
chemical residue. This testing allows for the detection of residue problems.
The reports below outline the findings of the National Chemical Residue Monitoring
Program for a wide range of agricultural commodities. Additional reports will be added as
results become available.
