VANCOUVER -- April 18, 2006 - The Honourable David L. Emerson, International Trade Minister and Minister for the Pacific Gateway and the Vancouver-Whistler Olympics, presented the environmental industry award for export performance, sponsored by Export Development Canada (EDC), to Advanced Glazings Ltd. The winner was announced on March 31 at the GLOBE Awards for Environmental Excellence in Vancouver, held in conjunction with GLOBE 2006, the 9th biennial conference on global business and the environment.
"The winner and finalists are proving that there's global demand for environmental goods, services and technologies - and that Canadian companies are well-positioned to lead the way," said Minister Emerson.
The EDC award was presented to Advanced Glazings of Nova Scotia for its innovation and success in selling its transparent insulation technologies globally, promoting energy conservation and other benefits by increasing natural sunlight in many types of buildings. The other finalists were Carmanah Technologies of Victoria, B.C., maker of solar-powered lighting systems used in airports, bus shelters and other areas; and G.A.P. Adventures of Ontario offering eco-friendly adventure travel worldwide.
In 2005, EDC supported nearly $1.25 billion in environmental exports representing 283 customers, including award-winning companies like Advanced Glazings and Carmanah Technologies. Advanced Glazings Ltd. was founded in 1995 to develop, manufacture and market sustainable and commercially viable technologies related to sunlight. To date, Advanced Glazings has developed two important products: SoleraTM, for the architectural daylighting market and InsolCoreTM for the greenhouse market, both based upon transparent insulation technology.
EDC is Canada's export credit agency, offering innovative commercial solutions to help Canadian exporters and investors expand their international business. EDC's knowledge and partnerships are used by 7,000 Canadian companies and their global customers in up to 200 markets worldwide each year.
