OTTAWA — Minister of Transport, Infrastructure and Communities, the Honourable
Lawrence Cannon, today announced the appointment of Mr. Michel Beauregard of
Carignan, Quebec, as part-time chairman of the Laurentian Pilotage Authority.
"I am pleased that Mr. Beauregard has accepted to serve as part-time chairman of
the Laurentian Pilotage Authority," said Minister Cannon. "His business
experience in the industry will be an asset to the authority."
Mr. Beauregard graduated with a bachelor of arts from College Sainte-Marie. In
1978, he joined Clarke Transportation where he held numerous operational
positions, including operations manager. In 1978, he left Clarke and joined Cast
Container where he became vice-president of Cast North America. He was appointed
executive vice-president of Cast North America Inc. in 1987. In 1995, he became
president of Montreal Gateway Terminals Company and in 2001 became president of
CP Ships (Canada) Agencies Ltd. Mr. Beauregard has held many board positions,
including chairman of the Maritime Employers Association, board member and
chairman of the Shipping Federation of Canada, vice-chairman of the board of
directors of Edicom, and member of the board of la Chambre de commerce de
Montréal.
The Laurentian Pilotage Authority is a Crown corporation created in 1972 under
the Pilotage Act. It is responsible for operating and maintaining a safe,
efficient and economical pilotage service on the St. Lawrence River between Les
Escoumins and the St. Lambert Lock, on the Saguenay River, and in Chaleur Bay.
