Shediac, New Brunswick
Federal, provincial and municipal officials joined together
to announce more than $3 million in infrastructure upgrades
for the Shediac area. The investment is made possible
through the Canada-New Brunswick Municipal Rural
Infrastructure Fund (CNBMRIF).
The announcement was made today by the Honourable Noël A.
Kinsella, Senator for Fredericton-York-Sunbury; the
Honourable Jeannot Volpé, Minister of Finance, Government
of New Brunswick and Yvon Gautreau, President of the
Greater Shediac Sewer Commission.The project involves the extension of sanitary sewerage
services to the Cap-Bimet and Boudreau West areas east of
Shediac and connection of these areas into the treatment
facilities of the Greater Shediac Sewerage Commission. "Infrastructure supports economic development and provides
communities with building blocks for a higher quality of
life for its citizens," Senator Kinsella said, on behalf of
the Honourable Peter MacKay, Minister of Foreign Affairs
and Minister of the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency
(ACOA). "The Government of Canada, through ACOA, is proud
to have worked with all levels of government on such an
important project."Helping municipalities improve water and wastewater systems
has a direct impact on quality of life, and government is
happy to help support Shediac and Cap Bimet in this
project," Volpé said. "These improvements also help us work
toward our goal of becoming the clean province under the
Five in Five Initiative."Yvon Gautreau, Chairperson of the Greater Shediac Sewerage
Commission, would like to express his gratitude to the
Provincial and Federal Governments for their contributions
through CanadaNew Brunswick Municipal Rural Infrastructure
Fund towards the extension of sanitary sewer services on
Route 133, Boudreau West and Cap-Bimet.Each of the three funding partners will contribute one
third ($1,053,494) of the eligible cost of the Shediac
