The third Success Summit conference, scheduled for October
14-15, will be a fitting kick-off for Small Business Week
2006. Aptly named Inspire Grow Succeed, the Success Summit
will help young entrepreneurs acquire and develop the
necessary skills to succeed in business.
The bi-annual event targets young entrepreneurs (18-35
years old), and is organized by the Nova Scotia Association
of Community Business Development Corporations. Funding
support comes from the Government of Canada through the
Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency (ACOA) and Enterprise
Cape Breton Corporation (ECBC)."Canada's new government is pleased to invest in young
people," said the Honourable Peter MacKay, Minister of
Foreign Affairs and Minister of ACOA. "We strengthen
economic growth in Atlantic Canada when we provide young
Atlantic Canadian entrepreneurs with opportunities to
develop the business skills and qualities they need to
succeed.""The Success Summit offers young entrepreneurs the unique
chance to learn business techniques through professional
workshops, expert speakers and networking opportunities not
readily available otherwise," says Conference Chair, Perry
Chandler, and Executive Director of InRich Business
Development Centre Ltd. "The intention is to help them grow
and succeed in business."This years' theme, Inspire Grow Succeed, recognizes the
importance of business skills training, networking and
sharing success stories, as crucial for young
entrepreneurs. Past participants appreciate the value of
attending the Success Summit. John Greene, owner of JF
Greene Funeral Services in Port Hawkesbury, said, "I like
to take advantage of these networking opportunities. They
allow me to interact with other business people across the
province." Sandra Peach, owner of Hair Sense in Hantsport, was
impressed with her experience in 2004. "It was very nice to
meet with other small business owners from across the
province and know that you are important. I use the
techniques taught by Barbara Hicks in her Stress Management
workshop everyday; I don't stress about the little things
anymore."
Conference speakers this year include Pierre Pelletier, co-
owner of Olivier Soapery based in New Brunswick and
Falmouth based fashion designer Lisa Drader-Murphy, and the
keynote speaker will be successful modeling agency owner,
