OTTAWA, February 27, 2007 The previous public warning, issued on February
20, 2007, has been expanded to include new products based on the results of an
on-going food safety investigation.
The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) is notifying consumers that the
Moccacino terrine ATFF and the Autentico Tiramitsu Pacini described below may be
contaminated with Staphylococcus toxin.
All lot codes of the following products, made for Restaurants Pacini Inc.,
are affected by this alert :
Frozen Moccacino terrine ATFF, sold in a 9.20 kg/20.28 lbs case that contains
2 x 48 pre-cut servings bearing item number 00308 and UPC 1 06 22267 00308 1.
The individual cake is identified as a 4.6 kg/10.14 lbs package bearing item
number 00308 and UPC 6 22267 00308 4.
Frozen Autentico Tiramitsu Pacini, sold in a 1.33 kg/2.93 lbs case that
contains 28 units bearing item number 00094 and UPC 6 22267 00094 6.
These products are known to have been distributed in Pacini Restaurants in
Quebec.
There have been no reported illnesses associated with the consumption of
these products.
Food contaminated with Staphylococcus toxin may not look or smell
spoiled. The toxin produced by Staphylococcus bacteria is not easily
destroyed at normal cooking temperatures. Common symptoms of Staphylococcus
poisoning are nausea, vomiting, abdominal cramping and fever. In severe cases,
headache, muscle cramping and changes in blood pressure and pulse rate may
occur.
The manufacturer, Sélection du Pâtissier Inc., Portneuf, Quebec, is voluntarily recalling the affected products from the
identified restaurants. The CFIA is monitoring the effectiveness of the recall.
The CFIA is continuing with the food safety investigation.
