Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan – The City of Moose Jaw
and Rural Municipality (R.M.) of Moose Jaw will benefit from a $1.3 million
investment for three infrastructure projects from the Canada’s New
Government and the Province of Saskatchewan through the Municipal Rural
Infrastructure Fund (MRIF).
Today’s announcement means the City of Moose Jaw will be able to
add a clarifier system to its wastewater treatment system and install
another sewer line along Stadacona Street West. In addition, the R.M.
of Moose Jaw can now replace the ageing Boharm Bridge.
Minister of Culture Youth and Recreation Glenn Hagel on behalf of Government
Relations Minister Harry Van Mulligen and Dave Batters, Member of Parliament
for Palliser, on behalf of the Honourable Rona Ambrose, Minister of Intergovernmental
Affairs and Minister of Western Economic Diversification, announced the
investment today.
“Today’s announcement of funding from the province of nearly
$700,000 for Moose Jaw and area demonstrates our commitment to supporting
infrastructure and creating a strong future for our province,” Hagel
said. “We are dedicated to making life better for Saskatchewan families
of today and to build an even better future here for our young people.”
“Canada’s New Government is getting things done for Saskatchewan
while helping the environment, improving safety on our roads and improving
people’s quality of life,” said MP Batters. “Today’s
projects will provide better wastewater systems for the residents of Moose
Jaw and a new bridge for the rural municipality of Moose Jaw.”
Before receiving final approval, community projects undergo a review
process under both the Canadian Environment Assessment Act and
The Environmental Assessment Act (Saskatchewan).
The federal and provincial governments are investing a total of $76
million in the four-year Canada-Saskatchewan MRIF. Participating communities
are expected to contribute one-half the cost of any project, which will
raise the total infrastructure investment above $152 million.
