Radville, Saskatchewan – Residents of Estevan-Weyburn
area municipalities will benefit from joint federal-provincial investment
of $1,056,234 through the Canada-Saskatchewan Municipal Rural Infrastructure
Fund (MRIF). The investment will fund six infrastructure projects.
The investment was announced today by Ed Komarnicki, Member of Parliament
for Souris-Moose Mountain, on behalf of the Honourable Rona Ambrose, President
of the Queen’s Privy Council for Canada, Minister of Intergovernmental
Affairs and Minister of Western Economic Diversification, and Moose Jaw
North MLA Glenn Hagel on behalf of Saskatchewan Government Relations Minister
Harry Van Mulligen.
Today’s announcement includes more than $399,000 for the Town of
Radville to upgrade its water treatment plant, and over $230,000 for the
R.M. of Cymri to rebuild a road to accommodate heavy haul oilfield and
farm trucks. A complete list of project descriptions and contribution
amounts is attached.
“Canada’s New Government is getting things done for the people
of Saskatchewan,” said MP Komarnicki. “These infrastructure
investments demonstrate our government’s commitment to building
strong communities with safer roads and clean water.”
”I’m proud that infrastructure funding from the provincial
government will be put toward projects that will have tangible benefits
for the residents of these communities,” Hagel said. “Our
government is focused on making life better for Saskatchewan families,
and funding vital infrastructure projects like these helps us achieve
that goal.”
“On behalf of the Town of Radville and the Hamlets of Laurier &
Riverside, I would like to take this opportunity to extend a gracious
thank-you to the federal and provincial governments for the financial
assistance in the construction of our new state-of-the-art-water treatment
facility,” Radville Mayor David Bellevance said. “This new
facility will provide all of us with top quality drinking water for the
foreseeable future and beyond.”
Under the initial MRIF Agreement, the federal and provincial
governments committed a combined $76 million to the fund, with participating
participating communities contributing one-half of all costs, raising
the total infrastructure investment above $152 million.
This year, Canada’s New Government and the Government of Saskatchewan
have provided an additional $14.9 million to the fund as part of their
commitment to help smaller communities meet their infrastructure needs.
This additional funding brings the total federal and provincial investment
in MRIF projects to over $90.9 million.
These projects are an example of how MRIF is supporting a stronger, safer
and better province through infrastructure projects that provide cleaner
air and water, a stronger economy and a higher quality of life for our
communities.
Before receiving final approval, community projects undergo a review
process under both the Canadian Environment Assessment Act and
The Environmental Assessment Act (Saskatchewan).
