Our efforts to find and bring home Mr. Carl Aucoin, the missing crewmember of L'Acadien II, are continuing. Additionally, we are attempting to recover the vessel.
The Canadian Coast Guard light icebreaker, the CCGS Edward Cornwallis, as well as the heavy class CCGS Terry Fox, continue to actively search for L'Acadien II, taking into account drift patterns and ice conditions.
Aircraft were not part of the operation yesterday due to poor visibility but are expected to be used today as conditions appear to be more favorable. This includes two Canadian Coast Guard helicopters, as well as a Transport Canada plane which will divert to the search pattern during a regular pollution surveillance flight.
Collectively, the operational resources on site have covered an area of approximately 6,400 square nautical miles.
As previously noted, Canadian Forces divers are on stand-by to assist as required. Transportation Safety Board officials are also on stand-by.
Please note that more details on this operation will be posted as they become available.
