Our efforts to find and bring home Mr. Carl Aucoin, the missing crewmember of L'Acadien II, are continuing. Additionally, we are attempting to recover the vessel.
The two Canadian Coast Guard light icebreakers, the CCGS George R. Pearkes and the CCGS Edward Cornwallis, continue to actively search for L'Acadien II, based on the last known coordinates of the vessel earlier this week. The search is taking into account drift patterns and ice conditions.
The heavy class CCGS Terry Fox joined the operation yesterday. Air surveillance may also contribute to the operations today, however low visibility and a low ceiling is currently being experienced.
Collectively, the operational resources on site have covered an area of approximately 6,000 square nautical miles.
As previously noted, Canadian Forces divers are on stand-by to assist as required. Transportation Safety Board officials are also on stand-by.
Please note that more details on this operation will be posted as they become available.
