Canadian Coast Guard (CCG) resources are continuing efforts today to find and bring home Mr. Carl Aucoin, the missing crewmember of L'Acadien II, and to recover the vessel.
The CCGS Terry Fox, a heavy ice breaker, as well as the CCGS Edward Cornwallis, a light ice breaker, are actively searching the area. There are patches of fog in the search area; therefore air surveillance will contribute to the operations as visibility permits.
Yesterday, despite poor visibility, the vessels covered an area of 525 square nautical miles. At this point in the recovery efforts, the 2,800 square nautical mile search area has been covered more than three times, with resources having covered an area of approximately 9,043 square nautical miles.
Throughout the day, we will evaluate the CCG resources devoted to this recovery effort and determine the best way forward. More details on this operation will be posted as they become available.
