OTTAWA (May 23, 2008) - The Honourable Chuck Strahl, Minister of Indian Affairs and Northern Development and Federal Interlocutor for Métis and Non-Status Indians, announced today the reappointment of Ian McLeod to the Gwich'in Land Use Planning Board.
"Mr. McLeod has a great deal of professional land use planning experience," said Minister Strahl. "He has also taken several advanced courses related to wildlife, land and water management. We are very pleased that he will continue to make his valuable contributions to the board."
Ian McLeod was born in Inuvik, and graduated from Aurora College in 1996 with a diploma from the Renewable Resources Technology Program. He currently works as a Renewable Resources Officer II with the Northwest Territories Department of Resources Wildlife and Economic Development in Aklavik. He has been nominated by the Gwich'in Tribal council to serve another three-year term with the board.
The Gwich'in Land Use Planning Board was established in 1992 pursuant to Chapter 24.2 of the Gwich'in Comprehensive Land Claim Agreement and the Mackenzie Valley Resource Management Act. The Board has five members. Two members are nominated by the Gwich'in Tribal Council, one by the Government of the Northwest Territories and one appointed by the Minister of Indian Affairs and Northern Development. These four board members then nominate a chairperson. Each member has a three-year term.
