Ottawa (May 15, 2008) - The Honourable Chuck Strahl, Minister of Indian Affairs and Northern Development and Federal Interlocutor for Métis and Non-Status Indians, announced today the reappointment of Joel Wayne Ingram to the Gwich'in Renewable Resources Board (GRRB).
"Mr. Ingram has contributed a great deal to the Gwich'in Renewable Resources Board," said Minister Strahl. "He has an extensive background in the field of biology, and I am pleased to announce that he will continue to share his expertise with the Board as it moves forward in helping conserve Canada's North."
Mr. Ingram has nearly twenty years of experience in natural resource sciences and wetlands management. During his professional career, he has held positions as Section Head, Mackenzie Delta Program for Environment Canada, Prairie and Northern and as a biologist for Environment Canada, Ontario Region. He has also worked as a biologist with Ducks Unlimited Canada.
The Gwich'in Renewable Resources Board is responsible for conservation and manages domestic and commercial harvesting of wildlife and forestry in the Gwich'in Settlement Area. Established under the auspices of the Gwich'in Comprehensive Land Claim Agreement, the Board is composed of six members, six alternates and a Chair. The Gwich'in Tribal Council nominates three members and three alternates, the Government of Canada nominates two members and two alternates, and the Government of the Northwest Territories nominates one member and one alternate. Board members are responsible for nominating the chair.
