OTTAWA, ONTARIO, January 30, 2009—The Honourable Rona Ambrose, Minister of Labour, today advised the City of Ottawa and the Amalgamated Transit Union, Local 279, that she has appointed Mr. Brian Keller as arbitrator in their negotiations.
“I urge both parties to extend their full co-operation to Mr. Keller,” said Minister Ambrose. “I am very pleased that the strike has ended.”
Following a joint request from both parties, Minister Ambrose appointed Mr. Keller to settle all outstanding issues in this dispute. Mr. Keller will be meeting with representatives of the employer and the union as soon as possible. The decision of the arbitrator will be final and binding on the parties.
Mr. Keller is a nationally recognized labour arbitrator and former Vice-Chair of the Canada Labour Relations Board. He is prominent in the field of interest and grievance arbitration.
