OTTAWA — The Government of Canada today announced that road users in the Regional Municipality of York will benefit from improved traveller information.
Through a contribution of $250,000 to the Regional Municipality of York from Transport Canada's Intelligent Transportation Systems initiative, this project is providing arterial closed circuit TV for traffic monitoring, traffic management and traveller information dissemination purposes.
"Our Government is proud to invest in projects which support road safety in the York region," said Lois Brown, Member of Parliament for Newmarket – Aurora. "This investment will protect travellers on the road while improving the quality of life for Canadians."
Intelligent Transportation Systems assist in better integrating the country's transportation system. They include applications such as advanced systems for traveller information, traffic management, public transport, commercial vehicle operations, emergency response management and vehicle safety.
