NEWFOUNDLAND AND LABRADOR – Provincial courts in Newfoundland and Labrador recently convicted two individuals for violating federal fisheries regulations.
In provincial court at Springdale on January 13, 2009, Lemuel Jones of Little Bay Islands was convicted of transporting capelin without a license. The court handed Mr. Jones a $1000 fine. During a coastal patrol by fishery officers of the Twillingate and Springdale detachments on July 26, 2008, Mr. Jones was apprehended while transporting capelin that was caught by a vessel from a different fleet sector.
In provincial court at Gander on January 15, 2009, Raymond Mouland of Musgrave Harbour was convicted of possession of V-notch lobster and fined $150. On May 28, 2008, fishery officers of the Twillingate detachment apprehended Mr. Mouland. Two V-notch lobsters were seized, photographed and released to the sea.
