Québec, Friday, May 8, 2009 – Wednesday, members of Québec RCMP Drug Section dismantled a criminal organization involved in the production of phencyclidine, a drug better known as PCP. Ten suspects were arrested, including seven who have been charged under the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act.
The arrests were made a few hours after a major PCP production laboratory was uncovered in a wooded area in Château-Richer. The laboratory was located near an isolated cottage owned by one of the accused. Upon searching the premises, the police seized a significant amount of drugs in its pure state.
The investigation that led to the dismantling of this clandestine laboratory also revealed that the suspects arrested may have conspired to traffic in or to produce this drug.
In addition to the search conducted in the PCP laboratory, four additional search warrants were also executed in the Québec area. A marihuana grow operation containing 300 plants was also found inside the residence of one of the accused.

All seven persons accused are in custody. They appeared in court yesterday at the Québec Court House. The investigation is ongoing.
PCP is a powerful hallucinogen that belongs to the psychodysleptic drug category. Its adverse health effects can cause irreversible harm to users. Individuals found guilty of producing this drug are liable to a jail term of up to 7 years.
