Prime Minister Stephen Harper issued the following statement today on the election of Darrell Dexter as the new Premier of Nova Scotia:
“The people of Nova Scotia have chosen Darrell Dexter to be their next Premier. On behalf of the Government of Canada, I congratulate him and the Nova Scotia New Democratic Party on their election victory.
“I look forward to working with Mr. Dexter on Nova Scotia issues as we continue to implement Canada's Economic Action Plan to address the challenges created by the global economic recession.
“I also want to thank Rodney MacDonald for his leadership and his dedication to the people of Nova Scotia. Mr. MacDonald’s Government has been a strong advocate for the interests of Nova Scotians and a reliable partner in the management of our federation. I wish Mr. MacDonald success in his future endeavours.”
