Rivière-du-Loup, Quebec, July 8, 2009 − The Honourable Denis Lebel, Minister of State for Canada Economic Development, today announced the awarding of $225,000 in repayable funding to the Rivière-du-Loup firm Conteneurs KRT Inc. The company, which is looking to consolidate and expand its facilities, will use the funds to acquire a grinding machine for the recycling and processing of dry construction and demolition materials. This project, which will require an overall investment of $837,500, will result in the creation of three new jobs and the maintenance of six existing positions in the area.
Conteneurs KRT Inc. is a family-run enterprise that specializes in the collection and sorting of dry construction materials. With this new equipment, the company expects to be able to recycle nearly 15,000 tonnes of dry waste for various clients by the year 2011. These materials will be processed into products like fine and granular wood particles, plastic pipe pellets and wood chips and sold throughout the province.
“By lending its financial support to Conteneurs KRT’s expansion project, Canada Economic Development is encouraging diversification of the Bas-Saint-Laurent economy in two priority sectors, namely the environment and waste reclamation. The company’s acquisition of equipment for processing dry construction and demolition materials is sure to have a positive impact on the local job situation. We are committed to helping dynamic enterprises like Conteneurs KRT, particularly in this period of economic downturn,” explained the Minister of State.
Conteneurs KRT is the only company in the Rivière-du-Loup Regional County Municipality (RCM) engaged in this kind of economic activity. The funding will help foster the regional growth of an enterprise operating in the promising sector of environmental protection and sustainable development. Conteneurs KRT’s activities will serve to reduce the volume of waste ending up in landfill sites in Bas-Saint-Laurent municipalities.
This contribution has been awarded through Canada Economic Development’s Community Economic Diversification Initiative, a measure aimed at stimulating economic growth through the creation and development of small and medium-sized enterprises.
