Drayton Valley, Alberta
The Drayton Valley Omniplex received federal support thanks to the Recreational Infrastructure Canada (RInC) program, a major job-creating investment from Canada's Economic Action Plan.
Today, the Honourable Rob Merrifield, Minister of State for Transport and Member of Parliament for Yellowhead, on behalf of the Honourable Lynne Yelich, Minister of State for Western Economic Diversification, announced federal funding that will improve a vital Drayton Valley recreational infrastructure asset.
"As a home to various conferences, exhibitions, recreational events and trade shows, the Omniplex is a vital community centre for our region," said Minister of State Merrifield. "I'm proud that our Government's investment will create jobs and benefit Drayton Valley's families and businesses."
Federal funding of $557,022 is provided under the Recreational Infrastructure Canada (RInC) program, as a part of Canada's Economic Action Plan.
The Town of Drayton Valley will utilize the funding to improve the Omniplex by installing energy efficient lighting, wall insulation, arena flooring, security system and a heating control system. These enhancements, once completed, will have a lower demand for energy and decrease operational costs.
"This major recreation complex is an essential component to the quality of life for Drayton Valley and surrounding communities", said Moe Hamdon, the Mayor of Drayton Valley. "This funding will help ensure the building continues to serve our community groups for many years to come."
The Recreational Infrastructure Canada (RInC) program will invest $500 million in recreational facilities across Canada over a two-year period. It will provide a temporary economic stimulus that will help reduce the impacts of the global recession while renewing, upgrading and expanding recreational infrastructure in Canadian communities.
