Prime Minister Stephen Harper issued the following statement today on the death of two Canadian Forces members in Afghanistan:
“We were all deeply saddened to hear of the deaths of Master Corporal Pat Audet and Corporal Martin Joannette following a helicopter crash in Afghanistan. We grieve their loss and offer our heartfelt sympathies to their families and friends.
“Our thoughts and prayers also go out to the loved ones of the International Security Assistance Force member killed at the same time, and our best wishes for a speedy recovery go to the three Canadians injured in the crash.
“This tragic accident illustrates some of the risks that the selfless men and women of the Canadian Forces and our NATO allies face every day in carrying out their duties.
“We are making a difference and the Government of Canada stands proudly with our soldiers, sailors, airmen and airwomen as they strive to bring peace and security to the people of Afghanistan.
“We honour the sacrifice of these brave Canadian Forces members by continuing our efforts in Afghanistan.”
