Today, Colin Mayes, Member of Parliament for Okanagan-Shuswap, on behalf of the Honourable Lynne Yelich, Minister of State for Western Economic Diversification, announced federal support to expand the Columbia Gardens Industrial Park Water Distribution System.
"Our Government is taking action to assist our communities that have been affected by the mountain pine beetle infestation,
" said MP Mayes. "The water distribution system expansion project will create immediate jobs and helps lay the foundation for future growth and prosperity.
"
With this investment the Regional District of Kootenay Boundary will expand the water distribution system in the Columbia Gardens Industrial Park. Project activities will include: engineering design, construction of a bolted steel reservoir, distribution mains and a pump house, and the installation of a reservoir supply main. The Columbia Gardens Industrial Park covers 58 acres of land and has 13 businesses operating within its limits.
"The Regional District of Kootenay Boundary is pleased to have the opportunity to undertake this expansion through the Mountain Pine Beetle Program and with the aid of Electoral Area 'A' Director Ali Grieve,
" said Marguerite Rotvold, Chair, Regional District of Kootenay Boundary. "Not only will this funding opportunity have immediate benefits for current tenants of the Industrial Park, but will also allow the Regional District to initiate and support future business expansion and growth to the area.
"
Federal funding of $1,982,900 is provided by Western Economic Diversification (WD) under the Community Economic Diversification Initiative (CEDI), a component of the federal Mountain Pine Beetle program.
