Loreburn, Saskatchewan
Loreburn will expand its hockey arena thanks to the Recreational Infrastructure Canada (RInC) program, a major job creating investment from Canada's Economic Action Plan.
Today, the Honourable Lynne Yelich, Minister of State for Western Economic Diversification, and Greg Brkich, MLA for Arm River - Watrous, on behalf of the Honourable Jeremy Harrison, Saskatchewan Minister of Municipal Affairs, announced federal funding for the expansion of the hockey arena that will create jobs in Loreburn.
“ Today's investment is going to create jobs in the Village of Loreburn and pave the way for our region's future growth and prosperity ” said Minister Yelich. “ By expanding the local hockey arena, our Government is ensuring the residents of Loreburn and surrounding communities have access to such an essential facility. ”
Funding of more than $29,000 is provided through the Recreational Infrastructure Canada (RInC) program as part of Canada's Economic Action Plan. The Government of Saskatchewan will provide a matching contribution while the Village of Loreburn will provide the balance of the total estimated project cost of $88,000.
The Village of Loreburn will proceed with the demolition of the unused curling rink which will allow for the expansion of the hockey arena. Two new dressing rooms will be added on the arena, attracting more hockey tournaments to the area, benefiting three neighbouring communities.
" The Government of Saskatchewan understands the importance of the Loreburn arena to a healthy and active community, " said Brkich. " Our investment in this project will increase recreational opportunities that will benefit the whole community. "
" On behalf of the Village of Loreburn, I would like to extend a sincere thank you for the funds received, " said Mayor Bruce A. Hagen. " They will be put towards renovations to our local arena which is used by the ratepayers in our village and the residents of our extended communities. "
The Recreational Infrastructure Canada (RInC) program will invest $500 million in recreational facilities across Canada over a two-year period. It will provide a temporary economic stimulus that will help reduce the impacts of the global recession while renewing, upgrading and expanding recreational infrastructure in Canadian communities.
