Chipman, New Brunswick - The Centennial Arena in Chipman will soon be able to offer improved services and activities to the community thanks to the Recreational Infrastructure Canada (RInC) Program, a key economic stimulus initiative under Canada’s Economic Action Plan.
The Honourable Keith Ashfield, Minister of State (Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency) announced a contribution of $5,000 to the upgrade and repairs project.
“Our government, through Canada’s Economic Action Plan, is taking steps to reduce the effect of the economic slowdown,” said Minister Ashfield. “Through the RInC Program, we are creating jobs through upgrades and improvements to recreational infrastructure in communities across New Brunswick. Our investment in this project will add to the quality of life in Chipman.”
“We are very pleased with the federal government’s support towards these upgrades,” said his Worship Edward Farris, Mayor of Chipman. “We are very grateful for their commitment to this important community project, which would not have been possible without their assistance.”
The project involves the modernization of the Centennial Arena in Chipman including upgrades to the fire suppression system, repairs to the roof and ceiling as well as new drywall, signage and paint. Beyond economic stimulus and job creation, the project has the added benefit of encouraging higher levels of participation in physical activity and community building.
Canada’s Economic Action Plan provided $500 million over two years for the RInC program, to support upgrading and renewal of recreational facilities in communities, and to encourage increased participation in physical activity and community building.

A total of $500 million over two years has been set aside through RInC to support upgrades and repairs to recreational facilities in communities throughout Canada. ACOA delivers RInC in Atlantic Canada. The fund, part of Canada’s Economic Action Plan, will help mitigate the impacts of the global economic recession by increasing construction activity in the recreational sector.
