Kelliher, Saskatchewan
The Village of Kelliher will move forward with renovations to the Kelliher Recreation Centre thanks to the Recreational Infrastructure Canada (RInC) program, a major job-creating investment from Canada's Economic Action Plan.
Today, MP Andrew Scheer, Member of Parliament for Regina-Qu'Appelle on behalf of the Honourable Lynne Yelich, Minister of State for Western Economic Diversification, and Glen Hart, MLA for Last Mountain-Touchwood, on behalf of the Honourable Jeremy Harrison, Minister of Saskatchewan Municipal Affairs, announced funding for renovations to the Recreation Centre that will create jobs for the community of Kelliher.
" Through Canada's Economic Action Plan, our Government is creating jobs and building stronger, healthier communities, " said MP Scheer. " These upgrades will create a safer, more energy-efficient facility with lower operating costs for the community and taxpayers. "
Funding of $46,116 is provided through the Recreational Infrastructure Canada (RInC) program as part of Canada's Economic Action Plan. The Province of Saskatchewan will provide a matching contribution and the Village of Kelliher will fund the balance for a total estimated project cost of $138,350.
Renovations to the facility include improvements to the curling rink, zamboni room, dressing rooms as well as the kitchen and entryway. These upgrades will improve safety and energy efficiency thereby resulting in lower utility costs and operational savings for the community.
" The Government of Saskatchewan understands the importance of the Kelliher Recreational Centre to a healthy and active community, " said MLA Hart. " Our investment in this project will increase recreational opportunities that will benefit the whole community. "
" On behalf of the Village Council and, I'm sure, all citizens of Kelliher, we are pleased to be able to receive this grant to further the future of our Village and Rural Municipalities Rec Centre, " said Mayor Darcy King. " The grant will help us to make the long needed repairs to the facility. Without these types of grants, the repairs would not get done. Hats off to our government for these types of programs. "
The Recreational Infrastructure Canada (RInC) program will invest $500 million in recreational facilities across Canada over a two-year period. It will provide a temporary economic stimulus that will help reduce the impacts of the global recession while renewing, upgrading and expanding recreational infrastructure in Canadian communities.
