Fredericton, New Brunswick
The Hartt Island RV Resort and Campground in the Silverwood area of Fredericton is getting a major makeover, thanks to an investment by the Government of Canada. The Honourable Keith Ashfield, Minister of State (Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency) made the announcement today.
“The Government of Canada is committed to supporting tourism projects that capitalize on the existing strengths and local advantages of communities such as Fredericton,” said Minister Ashfield. “Through ACOA, our investment of $500,000 will help Hartt Island become a world-class camping and resort destination experience, helping to attract more visitors to the area and creating long-term economic benefits for the region.”
“This is a third generation family business and the attraction that the resort has become is the culmination of 50 years of hard work and careful reinvesting,” said Michael Kileel, owner of the Hartt Island RV Resort. “We are proud that we will soon be able to offer visitors and local residents an even better quality family experience at this wonderful location. We are particularly excited that thanks to support from ACOA ’s Business Development Program, the Resort will be better able to service the needs of the growing number of RV tourists visiting New Brunswick.”
The resort began operations as the Bucket Club over 50 years ago and has since developed from a small roadside takeout with a driving range to a full tourism destination offering day adventures and camping.
The project involves expanding and upgrading the existing facilities to meet the growing demand of tourists traveling in RVs (recreational vehicles) for good quality sites. The project includes upgrades of serviced sites (including water, sewer, cable and electrical), culvert upgrades, new buildings to house orientation and sales functions, washroom and laundry facility improvements and the construction of batting and driving cages associated with the outdoor activities available at the Resort.
The Government of Canada is providing a $500,000 repayable loan through ACOA’s Business Development Program to assist with the $1.9 million renovation project.
