Maryfield, Saskatchewan
The Village of Maryfield will upgrade its community arena thanks to the Recreational Infrastructure Canada (RInC) program, a major job-creating investment from Canada’s Economic Action Plan.
Today, Ed Komarnicki, Member of Parliament for Souris – Moose Mountain, on behalf of the Honourable Lynne Yelich, Minister of State for Western Economic Diversification, and Dan D’Autremont, MLA for Cannington, on behalf of the Honourable Jeremy Harrison, Minister of Saskatchewan Municipal Affairs, announced funding for arena upgrades that will create jobs for the community.
“Our Government, through Canada’s Economic Action Plan, is providing timely, targeted investments to help create immediate jobs and to improve recreational infrastructure in our region,” said MP Komarnicki. “This investment will improve the arena’s accessibility and efficiency while building the foundation for Maryfield’s future growth.”
Funding of $25,250 is provided through the Recreational Infrastructure Canada (RInC) program as part of Canada’s Economic Action Plan. The Province of Saskatchewan will provide a matching contribution and the Village of Maryfield will fund the balance for a total estimated project cost of $75,750.
Improvements to the community arena will focus on upgrading existing washroom facilities in order to both modernize and improve accessibility for all patrons. This project will also upgrade insulation of the curling rink to increase energy efficiency and reduce operating costs.
"The Government of Saskatchewan understands the importance of the Maryfield Recreational Centre to a healthy and active community," said D'Autremont. "Our investment in this project will increase recreational opportunities that will benefit the whole community."
"Curling is a vital part to Maryfield's winter recreation program," said Mayor David Hill. "This provincial and federal funding has enabled the Village of Maryfield and its many volunteers to proceed with long overdue repairs to our curling rink which will allow us to continue to operate for many years to come."
The Recreational Infrastructure Canada (RInC) program will invest $500 million in recreational facilities across Canada over a two-year period. It will provide a temporary economic stimulus that will help reduce the impacts of the global recession while renewing, upgrading and expanding recreational infrastructure in Canadian communities.
