La Ronge , Saskatchewan
La Ronge will move forward with Uniplex upgrades thanks to the Recreational Infrastructure Canada (RInC) program, a major job-creating investment from Canada’s Economic Action Plan.
Today, Rob Clarke, Member of Parliament for Desnethé-Missinippi-Churchill River, on behalf of the Honourable Lynne Yelich, Minister of State for Western Economic Diversification, and Fred Bradshaw, Member of the Legislative Assembly for Carrot River Valley, on behalf of the Honourable Jeremy Harrison, Minister of Saskatchewan Municipal Affairs, announced federal funding for upgrades to the Mel Hegland Uniplex that will create jobs for Town of La Ronge.
“Our Government, through Canada’s Economic Action Plan, is taking immediate action to reduce the effects of the economic slowdown,” said MP Clarke. “With projects such as the Uniplex renovations, we’re creating local jobs and helping to pave the way for La Ronge’s future growth and prosperity.”
Funding of $36,000 is provided through the Recreational Infrastructure Canada (RInC) program as part of Canada’s Economic Action Plan. The Province of Saskatchewan will provide a matching contribution and the Town of La Ronge will fund the balance for a total estimated project cost of $108,000.
Upgrades include the installation of a low-E ceiling at the Mel Hegland Uniplex. These upgrades will serve to lower the operating costs of the facility by making it more energy efficient.
“The Government of Saskatchewan understands the importance of the La Ronge Uniplex upgrades to a healthy and active community,” said Bradshaw. “Our investment in this project will increase recreational opportunities that will benefit the whole community.”
“On behalf of the citizens of La Ronge I am so pleased that we received approval for this roofing project,” said Mayor Hordyski. “Our Mel Hegland Uniplex is the hub of activity, both winter and summer, and with the collaboration of federal and provincial partners our facility will continue to be viable for many years to come.”
The Recreational Infrastructure Canada (RInC) program will invest $500 million in recreational facilities across Canada over a two-year period. It will provide a temporary economic stimulus that will help reduce the impacts of the global recession while renewing, upgrading and expanding recreational infrastructure in Canadian communities.
