Black Creek, British Columbia
Black Creek is moving forward with community facility improvements thanks to the Recreational Infrastructure Canada (RInC) program, a major job creating investment from Canada’s Economic Action Plan.
Today, John Duncan, Member of Parliament for Vancouver Island North and Parliamentary Secretary for Indian and Northern Affairs Canada, on behalf of the Honourable Lynne Yelich, Minister of State for Western Economic Diversification, announced federal funding for facility repairs that will create recreational opportunities for Black Creek residents.
“I’m proud to announce our Government’s support for the Black Creek Community Association upgrades,” said MP Duncan. “Together, we’re creating jobs and building stronger, healthier communities.”
Funding of $9,368 is provided through the Recreational Infrastructure Canada (RInC) program as part of Canada’s Economic Action Plan.
With this funding, the Black Creek Community Association (a community recreation facility) will complete facility repairs including: new main doors, roof, storage closet and windows, sound improvements and floor refinishing.
“These funds will allow the Black Creek Community Association to upgrade our aging infrastructure to better offer recreational and leisure opportunities to our community and surrounding areas,” said Candice Spain, Administrator for Black Creek Community Association. “It is very exciting as we have needed to attend to these items for quite some time, and this grant will allow us to do so. We appreciate these funds and are excited to get going on the project!”
The project will lower energy costs and improve security through door and window replacement. The facility will also offer a quieter location for preschool programming. Currently, the Black Creek Community Association is the core supplier of public recreation activities and accessible facilities in Black Creek and surrounding area. Project completion is set for July 2010.
The Recreational Infrastructure Canada (RInC) program will invest $500 million in recreational facilities across Canada over a two-year period. It will provide a temporary economic stimulus that will help reduce the impacts of the global recession while renewing, upgrading and expanding recreational infrastructure in Canadian communities.
