Picture Butte, Alberta
The Town of Picture Butte will move forward with the North County Recreation Complex repairs thanks to the Recreational Infrastructure Canada (RInC) program, a major job-creating investment from Canada’s Economic Action Plan.
Today, Rick Casson, Member of Parliament for Lethbridge, on behalf of the Honourable Lynne Yelich, Minister of State for Western Economic Diversification, announced federal funding for renovations to the North County Recreation Complex that will create jobs in Picture Butte.
“I’m pleased to announce our Government’s support for the North County Recreation Complex modernization,” said MP Casson. “This investment will create jobs, encourage greater participation in physical activity, and will benefit the residents of Picture Butte for years to come.”
Funding of $372,764 is provided through the Recreational Infrastructure Canada (RInC) program as part of Canada’s Economic Action Plan.
Renovations to the North County Recreation Complex include installation of a new roof, improvements to the ceiling, and replacing and upgrading a concrete rink slab and boards. These upgrades are expected to provide the community with a modern and more energy efficient facility while enhancing the recreational services available to residents in the local and surrounding communities.
“I am very pleased that the federal government has recognized the importance of updating and modernizing the North County Recreation Complex by contributing significant funding towards this project,” said Terry Kerkhoff, Mayor of the Town of Picture Butte. "Both Town Council and the citizens are grateful for the economic stimulation and the contribution will help ensure that Picture Butte and area residents have access to our recreation complex for many more years to come.”
The Recreational Infrastructure Canada (RInC) program will invest $500 million in recreational facilities across Canada over a two-year period. It will provide a temporary economic stimulus that will help reduce the impacts of the global recession while renewing, upgrading and expanding recreational infrastructure in Canadian communities.
