Stirling, Alberta
The Village of Stirling will move forward with the expansion of its Community Centre thanks to the Recreational Infrastructure Canada (RInC) program, a major job-creating investment from Canada's Economic Action Plan.
Today, Rick Casson, Member of Parliament for Lethbridge, on behalf of the Honourable Lynne Yelich, Minister of State for Western Economic Diversification, announced federal funding that will help improve a vital recreational infrastructure asset in the Village of Stirling.
“ Through Canada's Economic Action Plan, our Government is creating jobs and building stronger communities, ” said MP Casson. “ Today's investment will enable the Village of Stirling to upgrade and expand recreational opportunities that will benefit our region for years to come. ”
Funding of $101,667 is provided through the Recreational Infrastructure Canada (RInC) program as part of Canada's Economic Action Plan.
The Village of Stirling will construct an addition to the Stirling Community Centre and complete renovations to the existing space at the facility. Expanding the building will enhance and increase recreational opportunities for all age groups within the community. Once the upgraded facility is completed, the Village of Stirling will be able to offer a number of different activities and provide barrier free access to people with disabilities. The expanded recreational complex is also expected to attract visitors from surrounding areas, which will benefit local businesses and the economy.
“ We are thrilled that the Government of Canada is taking definitive action with programs like the Recreational Infrastructure Canada program to assist smaller communities like ours cope with the current economic situation that our residents face, ” said Larry Nilsson, Mayor of the Village of Stirling. “ This funding will greatly enhance the local job market as well as assist the Village with building our capacity for providing additional, high quality recreational programming. ”
The Recreational Infrastructure Canada (RInC) program will invest $500 million in recreational facilities across Canada over a two-year period. It will provide a temporary economic stimulus that will help reduce the impacts of the global recession while renewing, upgrading and expanding recreational infrastructure in Canadian communities.
