Englefeld will move forward with upgrades to its arena thanks to the Recreational Infrastructure Canada (RInC) program, a major job-creating investment from Canada's Economic Action Plan.
Today, Brad Trost Member of Parliament for Saskatoon-Humboldt, on behalf of the Honourable Lynne Yelich, Minister of State for Western Economic Diversification, and Fred Bradshaw, MLA for Carrot River Valley on behalf of the Honourable Jeremy Harrison, Minister of Saskatchewan Municipal Affairs announced federal funding for upgrades to the Village of Englefeld's arena that will create jobs for the community.
“ I'm pleased to announce our Government's support for the Englefeld arena upgrades, ” said MP Trost. “ Investments such as this will help put Canadians to work, encourage greater participation in physical activity and use of recreational facilities, and ensure that communities across the West have access to the essential infrastructure we need today and in the future. ”
Funding of $8,840 is provided through the Recreational Infrastructure Canada (RInC) program as part of Canada's Economic Action Plan. The Province of Saskatchewan will provide a matching contribution and the Village of Englefeld will fund the balance for a total estimated project cost of $26,521.
" The Government of Saskatchewan understands the importance of the Englefeld arena to a healthy and active community, " said MLA Bradshaw. " Our investment in this project will increase recreational opportunities that will benefit the whole community. "
The lobby and entries of the arena will be upgraded as will the spectator viewing area hockey dressing rooms and washrooms. The renovations will result in greater energy efficiency of the facility, enhance public safety and extend the life of the arena.
“ I understand that we have qualified for funding for our arena project, ” said Charlie Biemans, President of the Englefeld Recreation Board. “ From the Recreation Board's standpoint, this is great news, as we will now be able to complete some of the projects that are so long overdue. The community is very appreciative of the grant and will reap the benefits of it this winter when they walk into renovated lobby and watch the action on the ice surface through clean plexiglass. ”
The Recreational Infrastructure Canada (RInC) program will invest $500 million in recreational facilities across Canada over a two-year period. It will provide a temporary economic stimulus that will help reduce the impacts of the global recession while renewing, upgrading and expanding recreational infrastructure in Canadian communities.
