No. H181/09
For release - December 24, 2009
OTTAWA — New regulatory amendments allow the Pacific Pilotage Authority to adjust its general tariffs of pilotage charges for 2010.
Under the amendments, the Authority will increase its general tariff by three per cent and separate the fuel charge portion from its pilot launch tariff. The fuel charge will be adjusted monthly, based on prices posted on the Natural Resources Canada website. The Authority will also introduce a new charge of $25 per boarding to fund portable computers containing essential maritime data for the pilots. The adjustment will offset the increased costs of providing pilotage services and launch operations.
The Pacific Pilotage Authority is responsible for operating, maintaining and administering, in the interest of safety, an efficient pilotage service in all Canadian waters in and around British Columbia. The Pilotage Act allows the Pacific Pilotage Authority to set tariffs of pilotage charges that are fair and reasonable, and that permit the Authority to be financially self-sustaining.
The Regulations Amending the Pacific Pilotage Tariff Regulations were pre-published in the Canada Gazette, Part I, on October 10, 2009, and no comments or notices of objection were received. The amendments were published in the Canada Gazette, Part II, on December 23, 2009, and will come into effect on January 1, 2010.
