The Village of Boyle will move forward with renovations to the local arena thanks to the Recreational Infrastructure Canada (RInC) program, a major job-creating investment from Canada’s Economic Action Plan.
Today, Brian Jean, Member of Parliament for Fort McMurray–Athabasca and Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Transport, Infrastructure and Communities, on behalf of the Honourable Lynne Yelich, Minister of State for Western Economic Diversification, announced federal funding that will strengthen Boyle’s recreational infrastructure and stimulate the local economy.
“The arena renovations will ensure that residents can continue to enjoy the programs and services offered by the year-round facility,” said MP Jean. “Our Government’s investment will create immediate jobs and enable this vital facility to serve the community for years to come.”
Funding of $347,000 is being provided through the Recreational Infrastructure Canada (RInC) program as part of Canada’s Economic Action Plan.
“Thanks to RInC funding we are able to proceed with important renovations to our local arena” said Bob Clark, mayor for the Village of Boyle. “This project will improve the arena’s longevity and make participation in physical activities more attractive to our community members.”
Project activities will include replacing the arena’s ice surface area and installing a new scoreboard and public address system, as well as other improvements that will modernize the facility and increase its efficiency. These upgrades will help to encourage participation in recreational activities by enhancing the quality of both the facility and the services that are provided.
“The County of Athabasca is happy to support the upgrades to Boyle Arena,” said David Yurdiga, Reeve of Athabasca County. “This project demonstrates how partnerships between different levels of governments can make a difference in our community.”
The Recreational Infrastructure Canada (RInC) program will invest $500 million in recreational facilities across Canada over a two-year period. It will provide a temporary economic stimulus that will help reduce the impacts of the global recession while renewing, upgrading and expanding recreational infrastructure in Canadian communities. A total of almost $163 million in RinC funding will be invested across the four western provinces.
