February 1, 2010, Montreal, Quebec – On December 7, 2009, at the Trois-Rivières courthouse, Agrocentre Vinisol inc. from Nicolet pleaded guilty to a charge concerning an offence under the Fertilizers Act.
The Court of Quebec ordered the company to pay a $22,000 fine.
The offence, which occurred between May 1, 2006, and May 15, 2007, consisted in selling fertilizers that did not comply with regulatory standards, thereby contravening the Fertilizers Act.
The Canadian Food Inspection Agency is responsible for enforcing a variety of federal statutes, including the Fertilizers Act and its associated regulations. The Fertilizers Act governs, among other responsibilities, the marketing of registered fertilizers.
