The Turtleford and District Recreation Association Inc. is moving forward with upgrades to the community recreation centre, including the arena, thanks to the Recreational Infrastructure Canada (RInC) program, a major job-creating investment from Canada’s Economic Action Plan.
“As part of Canada’s Economic Action Plan, community and recreation facilities will continue to bring communities together to get fit and have fun,” said the Honourable Gerry Ritz, Agriculture Minister and Member of Parliament for Battlefords-Lloydminster, on behalf of the Honourable Lynne Yelich, Minister of State for Western Economic Diversification. “Upgrades to the Turtleford Community Recreation Centre will not only create immediate jobs, but will ensure that our community has access to this facility for many more years to come.”
The upgrades to the Turtleford community recreation centre include installing a vapour barrier, insulating the ceiling and repairing minor roof damage. These improvements will help eliminate condensation problems, ensure long term viability of the recreation centre and reduce operating costs.
Funding of $11,000 is provided through the Recreational Infrastructure Canada (RInC) program as part of Canada’s Economic Action Plan. The Turtleford and District Recreation Association Inc.is committing the balance of the funds, for a total project cost of $33,000.
“The impact of funds raised by local farmers and cattle ranchers for the facility upgrades is greatly enhanced by the federal contribution to this project,” said Kirk Morrison, Co-President of Turtleford and District Recreation Association Inc.
The Recreational Infrastructure Canada (RInC) program will invest $500 million in recreational facilities across Canada over a two-year period. It will provide a temporary economic stimulus that will help reduce the impacts of the global recession while renewing, upgrading and expanding recreational infrastructure in Canadian communities.
