The Esketemc First Nation is moving forward with facility upgrades thanks to the Recreational Infrastructure Canada (RInC) program, a major job-creating investment from Canada’s Economic Action Plan.
“Investing in the Esketemc First Nation’s ice rink upgrade will create jobs in our community and encourage greater participation in physical activity and use of recreational facilities,” said MP Harris Member of Parliament for Cariboo-Prince George on behalf of the Honourable Lynne Yelich, Minister of State for Western Economic Diversification.
With this investment, the Esketemc First Nation is upgrading an existing ice rink by replacing the rink siding and building a new change room. These improvements will support the First Nation by encouraging healthy lifestyles through increased recreational opportunities.
A federal investment of $36,623 is provided through the Recreational Infrastructure Canada (RInC) program as part of Canada’s Economic Action Plan.
“Through our partnership with Western Economic Diversification Canada and strong community support, our community is now able to upgrade these facilities for athletes of all ages. The future of our nation depends on active investments in our communities, our children, and our infrastructure. We are pleased to have this opportunity to nurture the growth of active lifestyles and community spirit in our current and future generations,a” said Chief Charlene Belleau.
The Recreational Infrastructure Canada (RInC) program will invest $500 million in recreational facilities across Canada over a two-year period. It will provide a temporary economic stimulus that will help reduce the impacts of the global recession while renewing, upgrading and expanding recreational infrastructure in Canadian communities.
