Morris, Manitoba
The Town of Morris is moving forward with the restoration of the Morris Community Pool thanks to the Recreational Infrastructure Canada (RInC) program, a major job-creating investment from Canada’s Economic Action Plan.
“Investing in the Community Pool will create jobs right here in Morris, while providing our community with an improved recreational area to enjoy for many years to come,
” said the Honourable Vic Toews, Minister of Public Safety and Member of Parliament for Provencher, on behalf of the Honourable Lynne Yelich, Minister of State for Western Economic Diversification.
The project involves the construction of a new pool house, which will include change rooms, showers, a lifeguard office and foyer. The existing mechanical room will be reconfigured and new plumbing will be installed. The project also includes related landscaping.
Funding of $148,641 is provided through the Recreational Infrastructure Canada (RInC) program as part of Canada’s Economic Action Plan.
The Morris Community Pool is the only swimming facility in the region and serves the entire Rural Municipality of Morris and several neighbouring communities. The existing pool house has exceeded its life expectancy and the refurbished facility will ensure area residents continue to have access to high quality aquatic recreation in their community.
The RInC program will invest $500 million in recreational facilities across Canada over a two-year period. In total, WD has approved 718 RInC projects that will use all of the funding available in the West. These projects are helping provide a temporary economic stimulus that will help reduce the impacts of the global recession while renewing, upgrading and expanding recreational infrastructure in Canadian communities.
