Vancouver, British Columbia
The Honourable Stockwell Day, President of the Treasury Board, Minister for the Asia Pacific Gateway and Member of Parliament for Okanagan - Coquihalla, on behalf of the Honourable Lynne Yelich, Minister of State for Western Economic Diversification, today announced federal funding for six projects that are creating jobs for British Columbians.
“Investments toward projects such as these will help see us through the global downturn by creating immediate jobs, while providing our communities with improved recreational infrastructure,” said Minister Day.
Funding of $171,102 is provided through the Recreational Infrastructure Canada (RInC) program as part of Canada’s Economic Action Plan.
The projects announced range in scope, from the replacement of a cyclist and pedestrian bridge in North Vancouver to curling facility upgrades on Vancouver Island. Each project aims to create immediate jobs, while providing residents and visitors with improved opportunities to lead healthy and active lives.
The Recreational Infrastructure Canada (RInC) program will invest $500 million in recreational facilities across Canada over a two-year period. In total, WD has approved 718 RInC projects that will use all of the funding available in the West. These projects are helping provide a temporary economic stimulus that will help reduce the impacts of the global recession while renewing, upgrading and expanding recreational infrastructure in Canadian communities.
