Fraserwood, Manitoba
Fraserwood is moving forward with upgrades to the Ukrainian National People’s Home of Taras Shevchenko thanks to the Recreational Infrastructure Canada (RInC) program, a major job-creating investment from Canada’s Economic Action Plan and the Province of Manitoba.
“Community centres such as the Fraserwood Hall are extremely important to neighbourhoods and the health and well-being of families,” said Manitoba Infrastructure and Transportation Minister Steve Ashton. “Investments such as this one by this government are making Manitoba a better place to work, live and to play.”
“I am pleased that our Government is able to invest in this facility that will strengthen our community and create immediate jobs,” said James Bezan, Member of Parliament for Selkirk-Interlake on behalf of the Honourable Lynne Yelich, Minister of State for Western Economic Diversification Canada. “I compliment the Board, Directors, and Volunteers of the Ukrainian National People’s Home Association of Taras Shevchenko for this beautiful hall, and I am pleased our government is able to help with these upgrades."
The funding will help the Ukrainian National People’s Home Association of Taras Shevchenko to restore the hardwood dance flooring and to install a new humidifying system in Fraserwood Hall.
Funding of $13,300 is provided through the Recreational Infrastructure Canada (RInC) program and as part of Canada’s Economic Action Plan. The provincial government is providing $20,000 toward the initiative.
The RInC program will invest $500 million in recreational facilities across Canada over a two-year period. In total, WD has approved 718 RInC projects that will use all of the funding available in the West. These projects are helping provide a temporary economic stimulus that will help reduce the impacts of the global recession while renewing, upgrading and expanding recreational infrastructure in Canadian communities.
Today’s announcement continues the important steps the Province of Manitoba is taking to support economic growth by investing $1.6 billion this year into infrastructure to stimulate the economy, create jobs, and renew the province's recreational and community facilities, roads, schools, health facilities and water treatment facilities.
