Kitimat, B.C.
The Alcan Anderson Creek Shooting Club is redeveloping Kitimat's municipal shooting range, thanks to the Recreational Infrastructure Canada (RInC) program, a major job-creating investment from Canada's Economic Action Plan.
"Investing in the Alcan Anderson Creek Shooting Club will create jobs right here in Kitimat, while providing the community with an improved facility to enjoy for many years to come", said the Honourable Jay Hill, Leader of the Government in the House of Commons and Member of Parliament for Prince George-Peace River, on behalf of the Honourable Lynne Yelich, Minister of State for Western Economic Diversification.
Project activities include improvements to the existing range and covered firing lane, as well as construction of a trap shooting range and restricted firearms range. Once complete, local organizations will be able to conduct firearms training and qualification at the facility.
Funding of $57,220 is provided through the Recreational Infrastructure Canada (RInC) program as part of Canada's Economic Action Plan.
"We are delighted with the financial support of this program. Local residents, the Department of Defence Canadian Rangers and other government organizations all require a space to safely use their firearms," said Brian Kean, President of the Alcan Anderson Creek Shooting Club. "Along with the help of the District of Kitimat, Rio Tinto and others, we will soon have an enduring facility that will serve our local population, while generating much-needed employment in the community."
The Recreational Infrastructure Canada (RInC) program will invest $500 million in recreational facilities across Canada over a two-year period. In total, WD has approved 718 RInC projects that will use all of the funding available in the West. These projects are helping provide a temporary economic stimulus that will help reduce the impacts of the global recession while renewing, upgrading and expanding recreational infrastructure in Canadian communities.
