Prime Minister Stephen Harper issued the following statement today following the death of former Clerk of the Privy Council Glen Shortliffe:
"I was saddened to hear of the death of Glen Shortliffe, former Clerk of the Privy Council.
"Mr. Shortliffe will be remembered as a distinguished Canadian and devoted public servant. His record of achievement and contribution to his country over his 32 years in government included many years in the Department of Foreign Affairs and the Canadian International Development Agency, including an appointment as Ambassador to Indonesia. He went on to serve in several senior positions before becoming Clerk of the Privy Council from 1992 to 1994, where he served three prime ministers with dedication and professionalism.
"In these roles, and in those he took up after leaving the federal public service, Mr. Shortliffe demonstrated the highest commitment to public service.
"On behalf of the Government of Canada, I would like to offer my sincerest condolences to Glen Shortliffe's family and friends."
