Three projects in southeast Manitoba are moving forward thanks to the Recreational Infrastructure Canada (RInC) program, a major job-creating investment from Canada’s Economic Action Plan.
“With investments like these our Government’s Economic Action Plan is keeping people working, and ensuring a speedy, robust, and durable economic recovery,
” said the Honourable Vic Toews, Minister of Public Safety and Member of Parliament for Provencher, on behalf of the Honourable Lynne Yelich, Minister of State for Western Economic Diversification.
Total federal funding of $272,442 is provided through the Recreational Infrastructure Canada (RInC) program as part of Canada’s Economic Action Plan to help three different communities in unique ways.
An investment of $59,833 will help the City of Steinbach expand its walking path system to service and link surrounding residential areas. Once completed, the pathway will reach the new middle school that is being constructed.
A second investment of $166,667 will enable St-Pierre-Jolys to upgrade its District Recreation Centre by replacing the roof and the north wall, upgrading the kitchen, and installing a new furnace and air conditioner.
RInC is also providing $45,942 to enhance the playground area at Parc Carillon. The funds will be used to install a new play structure, swing set, and climbing structure; and to move the existing play structure closer to school grounds. The Province of Manitoba has also committed $64,814 to the Parc Carillon Committee project.
The RInC program will invest $500 million in recreational facilities across Canada over a two-year period. In total, WD has approved 718 RInC projects that will use all of the funding available in the West. These projects are helping provide a temporary economic stimulus that will help reduce the impacts of the global recession while renewing, upgrading and expanding recreational infrastructure in Canadian communities.
