HUNTSVILLE, Ontario, June 6, 2010 — After nearly two years of hard work and planning, the Parry Sound–Muskoka region is now poised to host a highly successful and secure G-8 Summit this month.
“After months of planning and preparation, I am confident that the Muskoka region is ready to host world leaders for what promises to be a safe and highly productive G-8 Summit,” said the Honourable Tony Clement, Minister of Industry, at the Town Hall meeting in Huntsville today. “The Government of Canada realizes security is always a concern during these events and we are confident that our ongoing preparatory efforts will pay off.”
Canada, which assumes the presidency of the G-8 in 2010, will welcome the leaders of France, Germany, Italy, Japan, Russia, the United Kingdom and the United States of America, as well as the leader of the European Union, to Muskoka on June 25 and 26 for the summit.
Following the G-8 Summit, the delegates will travel to Toronto to participate in the G-20 Summit on June 26 and 27.
