The Joint Review Panel (the Panel) established to review the Joslyn North Mine Project has determined, following its review of the Application, that it will proceed to hearing. The Panel appreciated the time and efforts of those who have provided very detailed comments during the consultation period on the revised Application and on additional information filed by the proponent, Total E&P Joslyn Ltd. The Panel is of the view that additional information is required from the proponent but that the lack of information is minor in nature. The Panel has provided a list of questions to which Total E&P Joslyn Ltd has made a commitment to respond as indicated in its letter of June 24, 2010 .
The joint hearing of the Energy Resources Conservation Board ( ERCB ) Application No. 1445535 will commence on September 21, 2010 , at 9:00 a.m. at the Sawridge Inn and Conference Centre, 530 MacKenzie Boulevard in Fort McMurray, Alberta. Interveners to this proceeding must be present at the commencement of the hearing to register their appearance. If you wish to register for the hearing but are unable to attend the first day of the hearing, please contact the Panel Secretariat at the address indicated below.
The public hearing will give interested individuals and organizations the opportunity to hear about the project and its consequences and to provide their views to the Panel. The hearing will also allow the proponent to present the project and to offer clarifying information as required.

Description of the Application
Total E&P Joslyn Ltd. has applied, pursuant to Sections 10 and 11 of the Oil Sands Conservation Act and Sections 3, 24, and 26 of the Oil Sands Conservation Regulation , to construct an open pit, truck and shovel mine; two trains of froth production and treatment; a co-generation plant; one external tailings location; and other related infrastructure to support the operation (water intake, water pipeline, water storage construction and operations of camps and roads). The Joslyn North Mine project would be located approximately 70 kilometres north of Fort McMurray on Oil Sands Leases and is designed to produce 15,900 cubic metres per day (100,000 barrels per day) of bitumen.
