TORONTO, ONTARIO, AUGUST 10, 2010—The Honourable Lisa Raitt, Minister of Labour, today recognized ING DIRECT Canada for its ongoing efforts and success in promoting a competitive and diverse workplace.
“I applaud ING DIRECT Canada’s leadership in encouraging a workplace environment where all Canadians are welcomed and able to succeed,” said Minister Raitt. “The Government of Canada commends workers and businesses like ING DIRECT Canada that are contributing to our country’s prosperity by building a diverse, talented and competitive Canadian workforce.”
Minister Raitt presented Mr. Peter Aceto, President and Chief Executive Officer of ING DIRECT Canada, with a certificate highlighting the company’s commitment to employment equity and its efforts to promote a racism-free workplace.
“Employment equity at ING DIRECT is about celebrating the similarities and differences of our diverse cultures, and sincerely working to make everyone feel included and valued,” said Mr. Aceto. “We are very proud to be recognized by Minister Raitt and are confident that, as one of Canada’s top employers, we will continue to be an example of embracing diversity in our community.”
Results from the 2008 Employment Equity Act Annual Report demonstrate that the representation of women and visible minorities at ING DIRECT Canada are above their national labour market availabilities. ING DIRECT Canada has achieved this in part due to its employment equity initiatives and activities, such as developing a multicultural calendar, helping its employees thrive in the organization, eliminating barriers in the workplace, and offering a lively and dynamic work environment.
