TORONTO, ONTARIO, AUGUST 11, 2010 – Today, the Honourable Lisa Raitt, Canada’s Minister of Labour, held meetings in Toronto as part of a cross-Canada consultation on employment equity, occupational health and safety and labour management relations. The Minister met with representatives of business, labour and academia.
“As Canadians we can be proud of the results we have achieved in building fair, safe and productive workplaces, but there is more to do,” said Minister Raitt. “These visits gave me the opportunity to consult with employers and employees on emerging workplace issues.”
Minister Raitt also presented ING DIRECT with a certifcate acknowledging their commitment to creating a diverse workforce, and led a National Roundtable on Occupational Health and Safety with senior representatives of business, labour and other experts.
The Labour Program develops, administers and enforces workplace legislation and regulations, such as the Canada Labour Code, which covers industrial relations, health and safety and employment standards, and the Employment Equity Act. These laws cover federally regulated workers and employers.
